JOHN VIVIAN BYRNE-JOHNSON
Born Kandy, Ceylon 1894
Son of John Byrne-Johnson (late Lieut, Royal Dragoon Guards, he served with Australian Forces in WW1) & Edith Byrne-Johnson (nee Dyes) of New Court, Watford
Educated at Charterhouse School & Clare College, Cambridge University
He was secretary of the University Athletic Club & a fine long distance runner, obtaining his Blue in 1914 for running three miles in 14 min 54.8 seconds - the best accomplished at Cambridge for years
As a keen member of the University O.T.C., he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Rifle Brigade at the outbreak of war
To France 7/11/14 & served with 2nd Rifle Brigade
Graduated in 1915 under the special war regulations
Promoted Captain in October 1915
Subsequently he was made Adjutant of 2nd Rifle Brigade
Mentioned in Despatches London Gazette 17/2/15
KIA F&F 22/8/16
Buried in Vermelles British Cemetery, Loos, France
