Lord Derby raised 4 Pals Battalions of the Liverpool Regiment (1st - 4th Liverpool City Battalions, later the 17th, 18th, 19th & 20th Service Battns, Liverpool Regt)
Elkington & Co of Liverpool were commissioned by Lord Derby to produce this solid silver Cap Badge at his own expense & he then presented it as his personal gift to every volunteer who joined the Liverpool City Battalions before 16/10/14
With a London 1914 hallmark on the reverse
