Son of James Mather DeWolf Almon & Effie Annie Almon (nee Tozer)
Served in South Africa 1914-15 & was entitled to the 1914/15 Star, which was issued by South Africa
Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, 14th (1st Portsmouth) Battalion, Hampshire Regiment 4/12/15
Promoted Lieutenant 1/11/16 & served in the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry)
Relinquished his commission on completion of service & retained the rank of Lieut 5/11/20
He then moved to The Hotel, Willowvale, Transkei, South Africa & applied for his medals 10/8/22
Married Ella Goldschmidt
As the ‘Responsible Manager’ of Woods Hotel, Port St. Johns, he appeared as a Native Witness on behalf of the Village Management of Port of St.Johns at a Public Meeting of the Native Economic Commission 10/11/30
He reached the age limit as a Major in the Reserve of Officers (Administrative Branch), Union Defence Forces of South Africa & was placed on the Retired List 4/9/55
Died East London, South Africa 13/7/65
