Ernest Walkington
Born Birkenhead, Cheshire 1890
Son of Robert & Elizabeth Walkington and older brother of George Walkington (below)
A pre-war gardener, he enlisted 2/9/14
Ernestwith 12th Cheshire Regiment & served as an Officer's Servant (Batman)
In late October he went to Salonika (Thessaloniki) & thus became a 'Gardener of Salonika', as the troops in this Macedonian Campaign were contemptuously labelled
Later renumbered 315063 when he transferred to 419th Agricultural Company, Labour Corps 20/6/17
Treated at Kinmel Park Military Hospital, Abergele, Denbighshire, Wales from 6/10/18 to 9/1/19, so he missed the Canadian riot there 2 months later
Discharged from No.2 Coy, W.C.Labour Corps to Class Z Army Reserve 27/2/19 to live in Kirk Hammerton, near Harrogate, Yorkshire
He suffered 20% disablement from pneumonia, attributable to his military service & qualified for a War Pension but apparently died in 1925
With copy of his MIC, 23 page Digital File of his Soldiers Papers plus supporting research documentation

Born Kirk Hammerton, near Harrogate, Yorkshire 1897
Son of Robert & Elizabeth Walkington and younger brother of Ernest Walkington (above)
Served in France with 2/5th South Lancashire Regiment
Evacuated from Merville to Boulogne on 31st Ambulance Train with 'Debility' 3/2/18
Later transferred to 2/4th South Lancashire Regiment
