8804 PTE R.E.J.PLUMB 2/BEDF.R.
Richard Edward James Plumb [also known as Herbert Victor Alexander Plumb]
Born Brockley, Kent 1887
Son of Annie Plumb of 7 Wivenhoe Road, Peckham, London
To France 6/10/14 with 2nd Bedfordshire Regiment
KIA F&F 18/5/15 during the Battle of Festubert
Commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, France
Note: Curiously there was also a WW2 Civilian casualty with exactly the same name - Richard Edward James Plum - who was born 9 years earlier in 1876. He was the husband of Ada Clara Plumb & was fatally injured during the London Blitz 29/12/40 at 39 King Arthur Street, Peckham. He died 2 days later at Miller Hospital 31/12/40. Although no direct kinship has been established yet, might the apparent Peckham connection help to explain why Pte Plumb had an alias when commemorated by the CWGC in 1915?
