Son of Richard & Rhoda Lane of Laburnum Cottage, Broad Clyst, Exeter, Devon
To France 20/9/14 & qualified for the ‘Aug-Nov 1914’ Clasp
Served with 1st Devonshire Regiment until suffering with Frost bite 24/11/14
Admitted to 14th Field Ambulance 24/11/14 & returned to Blighty
Admitted to Exeter V.A.D. Hospital No.2 on 4/12/14 with Frost bite feet
After returning to the Western Front he suffered a slight GSW to his head, was admitted to 14th Field Ambulance & transferred to No.3 C.C.S. 21/4/15
Returned to the front, was posted 8th Devonshire Regiment
Appears to have survived the First Day of the Somme at Mansell Copse when so many of other 8th & 9th Devons were KIA 1/7/16

Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
Also commemorated in Devon on the Memorial Tablet inside the Church of St. John the Baptist in Broadclyst, near Exeter
