Just 3 days later at Le Cateau, before his battalion had fired a shot, it was surprised at close range by German Machine Guns & a field battery: "The King's introduction to modern war cost 12 Officers & 431 Other Ranks killed, wounded & missing in the first 20 minutes"
He initially evaded capture but the following day - 27/8/14 - he was taken German POW at Harcourt, 10 miles west of Le Cateau
