Suffered a Gun Shot Wound to his head & was admitted to No.3 Casualty Clearing Station 4/5/15
Then severely wounded in his Chest & Shoulder 19/7/16 during an attack on Bazentin-le-Grand on the Somme
Returned to Blighty & was admitted to Queen Alexandra's Military Hospital at Millbank, London
Promoted Sergeant & was awarded the Military Medal for his bravery in France (MM LG 18/6/17)
The Daily Record of Tuesday 26/6/17 reported: 'Sergt. Alex. Whitecross, R.S.F., Edinburgh, awarded the Military Medal for bringing back valuable information after a raid on the enemy's trenches'
Promoted to Warrant Officer Class 2 & was wounded yet again whilst serving as Company Serjeant Major
