Almost exactly 3 months later he was KIA F&F 13/11/14 during a heavy German bombardment of the 2nd HLI's trenches in Polygon Wood during the First Battle of Ypres
Commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres
Note: Robert Gould MBE observed that "3 months after landing (i.e. by mid-November 1914) only 32 members of the original battalion survived in France"
