Son of Rev Arthur Evans & Mrs Evans Emily Josephine Evans (nee Rowswell)
Educated at Selwyn College, Cambridge University (B.A.Cantab 1890)
In 1911 he was an Army & Universities tutor living at 72 Montpelier Road Brighton, Brighton, Sussex
Commissioned 1st Garrison Battalion, Devon Regiment 14/1/15
To Egypt October 1915
Note: The Devonshire Regimental History by C.T.Atkinson records that the 1st Garrison Battalion, Devon Regiment was formed at Weymouth on 8th August 1915. It left Devonport on 27th September 1915 with 28 officers & 961 other ranks Landed at Alexandria circa 16/10/15 and proceeded to Cairo, where it discharged a multiplicity of duties, guarding Prisoners of War, hospitals, Army Headquarters & the High Commissioner's Residency. It sent out detachments to a wireless station at Abu Zabul, to an Australian hospital at Helouan, to several prisoners-of-war camps & provided picquets ready for all emergencies. In January 1916, it had to turn out 300 men to suppress a dangerous riot, when crowds of discontented Egyptian Army Reservists started demonstrating outside the Abdin Palace Hotel and came into collision with the police. In May 1916 it provided a guard of honour for the Sultan of Egypt during his visit and in August 1916 it provided escorts for prisoners taken at Romani. In mid-August 1917 this Battalion went to the G.H.Q. Camp at Rafa, Palestine, where two companies took over duty on the Rafa defences, where there were occasional interruptions in the shape of bombing raids by hostile aeroplanes. Later many detachments had to be found to guard the numerous prisoners of war taken during the offensive in November 1917
Discharged from the O.B.L.I. with VDH (Ventricular Dysfunction of the Heart) in 1918 & was awarded the Silver War Badge
He applied for his medals in 1927 when he was living at 25 London Road, Uckfield, Sussex
Died 22/12/31 & was buried in Uckfield Cemetery
