Joined the Royal Navy 17/1/1896
Transferred to the Royal Fleet Reserve 18/1/08
Served on HMS Forward 23/10/14 to 20/4/15 & was present when 3 German cruisers - Seydlitz, Moltke & Blcher - bombarded Hartlepool 16/12/14. By the time HMS Forward raised steam & left Hartlepool harbour the 3 German ships had already turned & made their escape.
On 5/11/18 he was serving on HMS Campania in the Firth of Forth when a sudden storm caused her to drag her anchor. She hit several other ships of the Grand Fleet, punctured her hull & slowly sank, albeit with no loss of life.
In 1939 he was a Beerhouse Keeper living at The Little Eastern Public House, George Street, Harwich, Essex
