      299059 H.A.STANDBROOK (as officially impressed on all 5 medals)


      Harold Alfred Standbrook

      Born Woking, Surrey 29/9/12

      Son of John Charles Standbrook & Fanny Minnie Standbrook (nee Mitchel), the 8th of their 12 children

      Served in WW2 with the South African Forces

      Trained at St.Paul's Theological College, Grahamstown, South Africa 1946

      Ordained Deacon 1947 & then served in 2 curacies in Cape Town

      Chaplain of St.Ninian's Cathederal, Perth 1950-52

      Then received a Short Service Commission (421606) as an Army Chaplain (Church of England) 21/4/52

      Served with the Royal Army Chaplains Department until he relinquished his commission 21/4/55

      Granted the honorary rank of Chaplain to the Forces 4th CIass

      Rector of St.Aidans, Clarkstown near Glasgow 1955

      Precentor of St.Paul's Cathederal, Dundee 1959-1963

      Rector of Spridlington, Faldingworth & Toft Newton, Lincolnshire 1963

      Rector at Gordon Chapel, Fochabers & St.Margaret's Aberlour, Ross & Caithness April 1972-May 1974

      Served as a 'Cowley Father' until 1981

      Note: The Society of St. John the Evangelist or Cowley Fathers was founded in Cowley, Oxford as a community of high church Anglo-Catholic clergy & is the oldest male religious order in the Anglican Church - Click here

      Died Henfield, Sussex 30/12/88

      With original colour photograph of him as a Cowley Father, annotated 'My final Sunday service at Bolney 19/7/81'
