The Mine Clearance Service (MCS) was established in 1919 to clear all sea mines & was administered by the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, although the men came from all branches of the Royal Navy
During 1919 over 23,000 Allied & 70 German mines had been swept with the loss of half a dozen minesweepers
