Rex Spencer Clayton
Born Markyate, Dunstable, Hertfordshire 12/2/1896
Educated at Modern School, Luton 1908
Then graduated at London University, BSc 1914
Commissioned from an Officer Cadet Battalion as 2nd Lieutenant into the Royal Garrison Artillery 3/8/16
Served in France with 10th Brigade, Royal Garrison Artillery
Admitted to 64th Casualty Clearing Station with Pyrexia & then to 139th Field Ambulance 10/11/18
Relinquished his commission 1919
After attending Westminster Teacher Training College he was employed an Assistant Master at his old school from 1919
In July 1939 he & his wife were featured in the Luton News & Bedford Advertiser as "Luton's ideal gardening couple"
In September1939 he was living at 122 Ashcroft Road, Luton & still working as a Science & Biology School Master
Died Luton, Bedfordshire 1965
His Officers Papers exist at TNA but we have not checked them Ref: WO 339/65258
