1706 HAVR RAJ MOHD 2 KSMR RFLS
Served as a Havildar (= Sergeant) with the 2nd Kashmir Rifles (Body Guard Regiment)
Note: The 2nd Battalion, Kashmir Rifles was the private army of the Maharaja of Kashmir & part of the Imperial Service Brigade
715 Men were sent to fight in German East Africa (now Tanzania) & during the advance to Morogoro they took part in the Action at Lukigura River 24/6/16, famously capturing a German Flag & Machine Gun - Click here
Despite receiving some 600 reinforcements, by January 1917 only 218 riflemen remained on the battalion roll. When the Army Medical Board inspected this unit only some 20 men were deemed fit to soldier, so they were all sent back to India
