Note: The original 'Middle East Command' was established prior to WW2 in Egypt to command & co-ordinate British Land Forces in the Middle East & Eastern Mediterranean region. It was reformed as Middle East Land Forces 'MELF' after 1945. It was headquartered variously in Cairo, the Suez Canal Zone & then in Cyprus from December 1954 until disbanded 28/11/67
