Son of William John Minto & Jane Minto
Educated at Nelson Thomlinson School & at the Friends School, Wigton, Cumberland
Registered as a Temporary Boy Clerk in the Civil Service 2/1/14
Enlisted 14/10/14 in the Anti-Aircraft Corps, R.N.V.R. with service number AA-593
Resigned 31/3/15 & qualified for a British War Medal, but this was never issued
Promoted to Assistant Clerk, Customs & Excise Department 1/5/17
Commissioned Second Lieutenant 13/4/18 To France 25/7/18 as 2nd Lieut, Royal Field Artillery
Relinquished his commission on account of ill-health contracted on active service 1920
His Officers Papers exist at TNA but we have not checked them Ref: WO 374/48064
Post war he lived in Roby, near Liverpool & was a vocal Peace & disarmament campaigner
He was variously Secretary of the Liverpool League of Nations Union 1925 & Secretary of the Liverpool Disarmament Campaign Committee 1931
Also President of the Wigton Old Scholars' Association until 1936
In 1939 he was Senior A.R.P. Warden of Sector 245, Westminster & the manager of Dolphin Square Ltd, living at 603 Dolphin Square, City of Westminster, London SW1
In May 1941 he was a restauranteur in Dolphin Square & was granted permission to sell alcohol with meals
Moved to 12 Whitcombe Road, Beaminster, Dorset
Died Weymouth 19/6/76
With copy of his MIC, 2 Medal Rolls, RNVR Service Papers plus a digital file of various newspaper cuttings & supporting research documentation
