To France 5/11/14 with 'G' Battery (or 'Mercer's Troop'), Royal Horse Artillery & qualified for the ‘Aug-Nov 1914’ Clasp
Note: At the outbreak of war 'G' Battery was equipped with six quick-firing 13 pounders. It crossed to France with 8th Division and landed at Le Havre on 6th & 7th November 1914, then transferred to XV (later IV) Brigade, RHA in 3rd Cavalry Division on 24/11/14 & served with 8th Cavalry Brigade. It saw action in the Second Battle of Ypres (Battle of Frezenberg Ridge, 11th – 13th May 1915), the Battle of Loos (26th – 28th September 1915) & the Battle of Arras (First Battle of the Scarpe, 9th – 12th April 1917) whilst at other times the battery served in the trenches as infantry.
Wounded in his elbow & thigh 16/8/18
Admitted to 13th Australian Field Ambulance before being evacuated to Blighty
Returned to France as a Corporal 28/10/18
Discharged 2/12/19
With copy of his Medal Index Card & 15pp Digital File of Soldiers Papers
Condition: Mounted as Worn, with Original 'AUG-NOV 1914' Clasp. Minor verdigris spots on star reverse, GVF
