The Ilfracombe Gazette published the following letter from Gunner Klee, 80th Battery, 15th Brigade, RFA dated 19/1/15 & commented that it gave a good idea of what our troops are living in at the Front:
"Dear Fred and Lucy, Just a few lines to thank you for the box of cigarettes which I received the night before last. They came at a time when they were most needed, as we had all run out of smokes. I am writing this letter by the guns in our dug-out where we live, and I will give you an idea how they are made. To commence with, a large pit is dug in the ground beside the gun and the floor covered with logs or brushwood. The roof is first made of logs and tree."
He then served with 'B' Battery, 296th Brigade R.F.A.
