William McLaughlin
Born Staines, Middlesex 23/7/1884
Son of Henry & Annie McLaughlin of Chestnut Grove, Staines, Middlesex
To France 12/8/14 with 3rd Coldstream Guards
Suffered a shell wound in his left leg at Soupir, south of the Chemin des Dames, during the Battle of the Aisne in September 1914 & sent back to Blighty
Returned to France & was posted 1st Coldstream Guards 8/12/14
Taken German Prisoner of War at La Bassée 25/1/15 after the Germans blew 4 mines at 7.30am & attacked British positions around the Brickstacks at Cuinchy
In 1918 he was being held at Schneidemuhl PoW Camp, near Poznan, West Prussia & was later sent to Lager Czersk, also in West Prussia
Died Surrey 1966
With 2 Medal Index Cards, Medal Rolls, 4 pages of his Soldiers Papers plus Red Cross POW Records & supporting research documentation
