Reduced in rank from Cpl to Pte & was also awarded 14 days Field Punishment No.1 from 26/9/14 to 9/10/14
Severely wounded near Bixschoote, 2 miles west of Langemarck 22/10/14
Note: Young German volunteers & old reservists were rushed through Belgium in the Race for the Sea. They arrived exhausted at Langemarck, north of Ypres on 22/10/14 but were stopped by experienced British Regulars & suffered many casualties. This gave rise to the 'Langemarck Myth' of untrained student volunteer soldiers marching into machine-gun fire while singing the national anthem ‘Deutschland, Deutschland über alles’
Returned to Blighty 23/10/14 & was treated at Queen Alexandra Military Hospital at Millbank
Transferred to 3rd Scots Guards
DIED HOME 24/4/15 of Apoplexy
Buried in Brompton Cemetery, London
