25021 GNR G.BOWYER R.H.A.
George Ernest Bowyer
Born Sydenham, London S.E. 1884
Son of Joseph Henry Bowyer
Enlisted in the RHA 1902
To France 5/11/14 with 'O' Battery (The Rocket Troop) Royal Horse Artillery & probably qualified for the Aug-Nov 1914 Clasp
Eight days later he was appointed Acting Bombardier ‘in the field’ 13/11/14
Note 1: 1914 Star roll confirms that quite a number of ‘O’ Battery RHA members claimed their ‘Aug-Nov 1914 Clasp’ so this unit was in range of the German guns between 5/11/14 and 22/11/14 - the race to the sea & the First Battle of Ypres 1914. However, no posthumous claim was submitted for Bowyer's clasp after the war
Note 2: 'O' Battery RHA was placed under orders of V Brigade RHA & saw action during the Moated Grange attack at Neuve-Chapelle 18/12/14, in the Battles of Neuve Chapelle 10-13/3/15, Aubers Ridge 9/5/15, Bois-Grenier 25/9/15, on the Somme 1/7/16 and the Battle of Le Transloy 23-30/10/16.
