      William George Mabbutt (correct family name)

      Born Aston Manor, Warwickshire 9/8/1883, the son of Thomas Mabbutt & Annie Smith

      Lived at Shipston-on-Stour

      Enlisted 1902

      To France with 30th Brigade Royal Field Artillery 19/8/14

      Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his bravery at Nieuport on the Belgian Coast 1917-18:'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty whilst acting as N.C.O. in charge of headquarters communication lines. He invariably carried out his duties most efficiently, and showed great courage and coolness, often under trying circumstances.' [DCM LG 17/4/18]

      Posted to 1203rd Battery, R.F.A. as Corporal & served in Murmansk, Russia with Syren Force, North Russian Expeditionary Force 1918-19

      Note 1: 1203rd Battery, R.F.A. was armed with 6 x 18 Pounder Field Guns

      Note 2: Whilst serving in Russia, Cpl Mabbutt was found guilty by Field General Court Martial, reduced to the ranks & awarded 30 days Field Punishment No.1

      Transferred to Class 'Z' Army Reserve 1/10/19 & awarded a £20 Bounty under Army Order 209 of 1916

      Died of a cerebral haemorrhage 30/11/28


      With copy of his Medal Index Card, A3 annotated copy of his DCM Citation in London Gazette & 17 page Digital File of his Soldiers Papers

      Condition: Small verdigris stain, VF
