Unique Memorial Plaque to a Jewish Lieut, 19th London Regt (KIA 1916)
Born circa 1890, the son of Aaron Schonfield of 10 Royal Crescent, Glasgow.
He was a member of the Jewish community and was educated at Hillhead High School before working in his father's Iron Merchants firm, Messrs A.Schonfield and Co.
Volunteered immediately after the outbreak of war.
Commissioned 2.Lieutenant 13/10/14 into 19th 'St.Pancras' Battalion, London Regt.
To France 30/4/15
KIA F&F 20/9/16 age 26 & buried in Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St. Eloi.
His CWGC headstone bears the inscription: 'His mother's joy, his father's pride'.
