Walter Scofield Suckling


Born Moseley, Worcestershire 1896


Educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham where he was a Cadet Serjeant in the school's Officer Training Corps


Commissioned from the OTC as 2nd Lieutenant, Royal Berkshire Regt 4/7/13


To France with 1st R.Berks.Regt 14/9/14 as an 18 year old Subaltern


Returned to Blighty with a heart condition


Promoted Lieutenant 2/4/16


Discharged 14/6/17


Post-war he became a Chartered Surveyor


He married in Garth Mary Blackwell in 1925 had a son the following year. Note: Their son was John Wyckham, who later became a theatrical Lighting Designer & Stage Director (etc), involved with famous London plays such as Oliver!, Beyond the Fringe, The Devils etc.


In 1939 he was living at 478 Warwick Road, Solihull, Warwickshire & belonged to the Birmingham Special Constabulary, where he rose to the high rank of Sub-Commander


Died in Solihull, Warkwickshire 1974



With copy of his Medal Index Card, 10 x A3 pages of Officers Papers, London Gazette promotions & other supporting documentation


Condition: 1914 Trio mounted as worn on old silk ribbons with an old copy 'Aug-Nov 1914' Clasp. EF
