Suffered from Gas poisoning on the Somme & was admitted to No.5 Convalescent Depot, Cayeux-sur-Mer 15/9/16

Note: The 1/8th Battalion came under attack from a new type of gas shell between La Boisselle and Pozieres on the Somme 19/7/16
The whole battalion had to be moved away for treatment and later still, almost 400 men were pronounce unfit for duty as a result of this
